Surrey & London Wedding Photography – Brick Lane Styled Shoot

Alternative Bridal Styled Shoot – A walk down and around Brick Lane, Shoreditch

Last Sunday (8th March 2015), I joined up with a few photography friends and hit the famous Brick Lane in East London. We organise a Bridal Styled Shoot along the  vibrate, colourful and diverse street in Shoreditch.

This shoot, was very much different for me, as the alternative theme was far from my usual style of elegant and contemporary. But saying that, it was great to work on something like this and add my own usual taste to it.

Thanks to the real Rock & Roll Model Couple, Sally & Reece. They really brought the shoot to life with their cool style and attitude.

Surrey Wedding Photography – London & a 24mm Tilt/Shift Lens

My short walk along the River Thames in London shooting on with a 24mm Tilt/Shift Lens

The first thing I have to say is about this post, is that it isn’t a real technical review of a lens. It is just my view of my use of the lens over a weekend and what I liked and disliked about using it.

As a Surrey Wedding Photographer, I am always looking to learn new techniques and try out equipment that can improve me. Now you will always hear that it is not about the equipment and having the latest, most expensive lens or camera will not make you the best photographer in the world, but some techniques need specialist equipment  to achieve a specific look.

For a walk around London, I decided to rent a Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II from Lens Locker who are based in Twickenham London. I have rented from Lens Locker for a few years now and can’t speak highly enough of them. Even when it comes to a last minute emergency, I always feel that I can call on them for a next day pick-up of a lens or some other equipment.

The Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L is, for the people who don’t know, is a Tilt/Shift Lens, which is a specialist lens mostly used for architectural, landscape and product photography. But over the years, I have seen it been used more and more in portrait and also Wedding photography. The most popular use in recent years has been for the Toy town look you see use in TV programmes like Location, Location, Location.

I decided that with a few Portrait shoots coming up in some great locations in and around London, I would rent the lens to see what I could create and if it would fit into my style of working.

What a lens it is! I am not really a fan of wide angle lens, but I thought I would give it a go too see if I could, again, fit it into my style of working. Using as a normal lens without the Tilt/Shift mechanism, was great, but putting it to it full use was the best fun. Even though it is Manual focusing, that didn’t put me off and actually, it made me stop and really think about the shot I wanted to achieve. I just love using the Tilt mechanism and I know that it has been done to death, but creating the miniature look was great fun and it is something I would love to do more of.

Anyway enough waffle, here are some shots from the weekend. All images were taken using my trustee Canon 5D MarkII, the Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II and my old non-branded Tripod.

Finally these two shots show off the Shift mechanism when use for architectural photography, which was amazing as using the Tilt mechanism.

Look out for my latest photo shoot with Cody where I used the lens for Portrait with some great results.

Dulwich Park Walk – Personal Project Film Photography

Dulwich Park Walk – My Film Photography Personal Project

I love being a Surrey Wedding & Portrait Photographer, but I also want to do something more within the world of photography.

This year I set myself challenges to bring out my creative side more and push into other areas of photography.

One of the challenges was to experiment in Film Photography and hopefully get to a level where I could implement it into my Wedding and Portrait Photography.

So a couple of weeks ago, I bought myself two 35mm Film Cameras, both were from Pentax, one was the ME Super and the other P30n.

So here are a few images from my walk around Dulwich Park in South East London. Really enjoyed using my second hand Pentax 35mm Film Camera, just need to stock up on some more film!!
